Or is religion a private matter only--personally comforting but publicly irrelevant? In today's cultural etiquette, it is not considered polite to mix public and private, or sacred and secular. This division is the single most potent force keeping Christianity contained in the private sphere--stripping it of its power to challenge and redeem the whole of culture.</p> <p>In Total Truth, Nancy Pearcey offers a razor-sharp analysis of the public/private split, explaining how it hamstrings our efforts at both personal and cultural renewal. But never have Christians ended up so irrelevant. How can this be? The problem, says Os Guinness, is that our views of relevance and our efforts to redefine ourselves are captive to the seductions and pressures of our modern clock culture. Ironically, we end up as neither relevant nor faithful. And in the process we are in danger of losing not only our identity but our authority, our significance, and even our very soul.</p> Christian Life Ecclesiology Evangelism Harvest Top 101: All Harvest Top 101: Year 5 Theology Thu, 26 Jan 2006 01:13:39 -0500 Decision Making and the Will Of God : A Biblical Alternative to the Traditional View (Classic Critical Concern) http://www.christiannotebook.com/books/node/177 <table><tr><td><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html%3FASIN=1576737411%26tag=artiwu03%26lcode=xm2%26cID=2025%26ccmID=165953%26location=/o/ASIN/1576737411%253FSubscriptionId=0JEKXTWNECEXBJGY7RR2" target="_blank"><img src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/11TFF87B0EL.jpg" height="140" width="87" alt="cover of Decision Making and the Will Of God: A Biblical Alternative to the Traditional View (Classic Critica" /></a></td><td><div id="amazoncontainer"><h1><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html%3FASIN=1576737411%26tag=artiwu03%26lcode=xm2%26cID=2025%26ccmID=165953%26location=/o/ASIN/1576737411%253FSubscriptionId=0JEKXTWNECEXBJGY7RR2" target="_blank">Decision Making and the Will Of God: A Biblical Alternative to the Traditional View (Classic Critica<br /></h1></a>Author: Garry Friesen,J. This man has a deep understanding of how God works in history, then and now. His profound insights are founded not only in his ability to think in Hebrew and understand original meanings, but also his knowledge of history. His personal knowledge of who God is the thread that makes this book prophetic as well as practicle. I have been reading it over and over for 20 years without tiring. It is a book for the layperson as well as the student. What did Jesus mean to say to us? What is his will for us today? Drawing on the Sermon on the Mount, Dietrich Bonhoeffer answers these timeless questions by providing a seminal reading of the dichotomy between "cheap grace" and "costly grace." "Cheap grace," Bonhoeffer wrote, "is the grace we bestow on ourselves...grace without discipleship....Costly grace is the gospel which must be sought again and again, the girl which must be asked for, the door at which a man must know....It is costly because it costs a man his life, and it is grace because it gives a man the only true life."</p> Christian Life Classics Discipleship Ethics Harvest Top 101: All Harvest Top 101: Year 5 New Testament Sermon on the Mount Thu, 26 Jan 2006 01:04:44 -0500 Where Is God When It Hurts? http://www.christiannotebook.com/books/node/159 <table><tr><td><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html%3FASIN=0310354110%26tag=artiwu03%26lcode=xm2%26cID=2025%26ccmID=165953%26location=/o/ASIN/0310354110%253FSubscriptionId=0JEKXTWNECEXBJGY7RR2" target="_blank"><img src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/21A80KKAKPL.jpg" height="140" width="93" alt="cover of Where Is God When It Hurts?" /></a></td><td><div id="amazoncontainer"><h1><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html%3FASIN=0310354110%26tag=artiwu03%26lcode=xm2%26cID=2025%26ccmID=165953%26location=/o/ASIN/0310354110%253FSubscriptionId=0JEKXTWNECEXBJGY7RR2" target="_blank">Where Is God When It Hurts?<br /></h1></a>Author: Philip Yancey<br />Binding: Paperback <br />List price: $14.99 USD <br /></td></div></tr></table><p>Book Description<br /> This perennial best-seller, now in a revised and expanded edition, includes a study guide.
