Book Description
"I could never myself believe in God, if it were not for the cross . . . In the real world of pain, how could one worship a God who was immune to it?" With compelling honesty John Stott confronts this generation with the centrality of the cross in God's redemption of the world -- a world now haunted by the memories of Auschwitz, the pain of oppression and the specter of nuclear war.
Can we see triumph in tragedy, victory in shame? Why should an object of Roman distaste and Jewish disgust be the emblem of our worship and the axiom of our faith? And what does it mean for us today?

The second edition was updated and expanded to include sections on Marxism and secular humanism, as well as a completely reworked chapter on what is now widely known as New Age philosophy rather than new consciousness. And the third edition offered further updating and revisions, including a thoroughly revised chapter on New Age philosophy and, perhaps most importantly, a new chapter on postmodernism.

![]() | Prophetic Untimeliness: A Challenge to the Idol of RelevanceAuthor: Os GuinnessBinding: Hardcover List price: $16.99 USD |
From the Back Cover
An immensely thoughtful and provocative book, challenging some trends in our Christian culture and inviting us to reconsider and rediscover. A powerful read. --Alister McGrath
Prophetic Untimeliness brings a timely warning. The temptation to dress the faith in todays fashion guarantees that it will look out-of-style tomorrow only the eternal can reach every time and culture. --Frederica Mathewes-Green
Never have Christians tried to be so relevant. But never have Christians ended up so irrelevant. How can this be? The problem, says Os Guinness, is that our views of relevance and our efforts to redefine ourselves are captive to the seductions and pressures of our modern clock culture. Ironically, we end up as neither relevant nor faithful. And in the process we are in danger of losing not only our identity but our authority, our significance, and even our very soul.

![]() | The Kingdom of God: The Biblical Concept and Its Meaning for the Church (Series a)Author: John BrightBinding: Paperback List price: $25.50 USD Amazon price: $16.83 USD |
Reviewer: A reader
The Kingdom of God by John Bright, renown Professor Emeritus of Hebrew and the interpretation of the Old Testament at Union Theological Seminary in Va., is the best cpompanion book you could read along with the Old Testament. This man has a deep understanding of how God works in history, then and now. His profound insights are founded not only in his ability to think in Hebrew and understand original meanings, but also his knowledge of history. His personal knowledge of who God is the thread that makes this book prophetic as well as practicle. I have been reading it over and over for 20 years without tiring. It is a book for the layperson as well as the student. If this book appeals to you, I highly recommend "A History of Israel" although it is much more of a textbook.

Reviewer: Mark Marshall (Corpus Christi, Texas)
This work is a classic, though a little known one. I'm so glad this has been updated and reprinted. It is simply the best and most balanced book on the Holy Spirit I've ever read. Packer's critique of the Charismatic movement is especially balanced and perceptive. And his writing on the role of the Spirit is deep, on target, yet easy to understand. I will pound the table and recommend this book for any serious Christian.

The study guide brings the deepest of trues to a level that even us "average thinkers" can understand. This book truely has changed my life and the life of many of my friends. Please buy this book. ![]() | Hard Questions, Real AnswersAuthor: William Lane CraigBinding: Paperback List price: $15.99 USD Amazon price: $10.87 USD |
With 2 Ph.D.'s in his hip pocket and many scholarly writings to his name, William Lane Craig could go through life as a pompous ivory tower dweller. From the information he provided Strobel in his layperson works to works like Hard Questions, Craig is understandable for any Christian willing to hear. This is a simple, 8-chapter book that hits issues like doubt, unanswerer prayer, and suffering and evil that would be a benefit to anyone struggling with these issues.
