Weightless or grounded?

Weightless by Natasha Bedingfield

An uplifting song on Spotify:?Weightless by Natasha Bedingfield

The sky is the limit
And I just wanna float
Free as a spirit on a journey of hope
Cut the strings and let me go
I’m weightless, I’m weightless
Millions of balloons tethered to the ground
Weight of the world tries to hold us down
Cut the strings and let me go
I’m weightless, I’m weightless,
I’m weightless, I’m weightless…

I love the positivity in this song, and the undertones of not worrying. However, the method of floating around?I’m not so sure about. Instead of being weightless, I’d rather be grounded. Established. Sure. Connected to others. Have a firm footing.

I’ve had past thoughts on being grounded. It’s an essential way of life for me. Looking through my Evernote archive, I tried to find some of my past writing on being grounded. I found this draft entry from January 28, 2009:

And some other notes about grounded:

Grounded is good. It all depends on what you ground yourself in. If you ground yourself in things or narcissism, then you’ll find yourself getting beaten into the ground.

We shouldn’t be beaten into the ground and defeated. And we shouldn’t just float around untethered to anything.

We need something in between. Not beaten into the ground. Nor floating around weightless. But grounded in something–someone–secure and loving.
